Moor-railway at the natural reserve Big Moor (area: 2.720 ha) near Gifhorn. Wether if you go by rail or decide to take the 12 km long bike way or the 5 km long hiking trail – you will notice fast that you are not on a normal natural educational trail. You will learn much about the genesis of the moor, vegetation and animals, history of moor colonisation, peat extraction, the change of landscape and the efforts, the interests of reconcile the peat industry and natural reserve.
The combination of educational trail and a visit of the section “Animal and landscape” at the historical museum Castle Gifhorn is ideal.
